Need a place to cram?

Finding a quiet place to study can be half the battle when preparing for finals.
However, many places throughout campus can help ease the stress and provide a sanctuary for students looking to study uninterrupted.
The Newman Catholic Center, 512 Normal Road, is offering 24-hour studying for students through Friday. Louise Schalasky, student ministry team coach chair, said students will have a number of rooms to study in throughout the building. There will be quiet rooms for studying alone, and there also will be certain rooms for group studying.
Schalasky said the center will have four or five computers with Internet access available for student use. Free food and coffee also will be provided to students.
Arthur Young, dean of University Libraries, said that although many do choose to study at the library, it actually is not its busiest time of year.
“By this time in the school year, most students have done their research,” Young said.
The Holmes Student Center is another convenient place to study and will be open from 7 a.m. until midnight during finals week. Charlotte Lampson, supervisor for the information desk at the HSC, said students can study at the various lounge areas located throughout the building, including the basement area, the study lounge located by the hotel desk and the study area located near the Pheasant Room. Outlets for students wishing to use their laptops are located by the cafe area.
Neptune Hall Director Michelle Saar said many students choose to study at Neptune’s fireplace lounge.
“The fireplace lounge is a huge area; a lot of people study there throughout the year,” Saar said.
Grant Hall Director Corban Sanchez said students also can go to the computer lab located in Grant North. Sanchez said students can reserve the formal lounges for big study groups.
Lincoln Hall Director Rhonda Hutter said normal study areas will be open as well as the dining area, which will be open until 11 p.m. for late-night studying. Free beverages will be provided.
