LL Cool J: The DEFinition (4 Stars)
November 18, 2004
Signed to Def Jam in 1985, LL Cool J has been its diamond in the rough.
LL Cool J (Ladies Love Cool James) wrote the first love-rap, “I Need Love,” in 1985 and still romances the ladies with tantalizing hits and a ripped body.
He’s not only a rapper, but in 1992, became the founder of the Camp Cool J Foundation, which addresses issues such as AIDS, drugs and violence.
Need you hear more? Let’s get to “The DEFinition.”
Each track flows well into the other with the lyrics and beats resonating its own interpretation for a flava-full release.
He gets you bouncing with the hot “Headsprung” track produced by Timbaland.
Another track destined to be a hit is “I’m about to get her,” which features R. Kelly.
“Hush” is the latest radio spinner saying, “Hush baby, wanna let ya know/This is how it’s gonna go/Hush baby, don’t talk so much/Just wanna feel ya touch, if we do it my way.”
The album has 11 tracks because this is his 11th album and he doesn’t appear to be letting up on flow or talent.
LL Cool J is “The DEFinition” of one of the greatest rappers of all time and like wine, he keeps getting better with time.
