Chairman seeks out input for CAB redo

By Gerold Shelton

The Student Association moved a draft of the new Campus Activities Board constitution to committee to seek more input from students and faculty at the SA Senate meeting Sunday.

Shaun Crisler, chairman of the CAB constitution commission, told the SA Senate he wanted student input on the rewriting of the CAB constitution and that he e-mailed copies of the proposed constitution to groups and organizations on campus.

Anyone interested in submitting suggestions for the CAB constitution can e-mail Crisler at [email protected]. Idea submissions are due by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29.

One senator raised questions about the need for a rewrite of the constitution in the first place. SA Sen. Mike Aniballi questioned the wisdom of allowing the student body to select the CAB president, rather than appointing someone from within the organization.

“It doesn’t make sense to me for someone with no experience in that organization to be in charge of it,” Aniballi said.

Crisler said he sometimes refers to CAB as a business and that he thought it was fair to allow students who have run other organizations before to have a chance to run an organization with a half-million-dollar budget.

SA vice president search

SA President Craig Marcus said SA Chief of Staff John Acardo was his selection to fill the vice president position vacated by the resigning Janet Rodriguez.

Marcus told the senators that, after consulting with Student Trustee Eric Johnson and SA Treasurer DuJuan Smith, they thought Acardo would be a good choice because he likely would learn the position quickly.

A second resolution would replace Acardo with Aaron Langguth. SA Sen. J.R. Perez would replace Langguth as director of mass transportation.

“Aaron has done an excellent job for us and has been very successful in his role.” Marcus said. “I pulled out J.R.’s application. He has a go-getter approach.”

The SA senate will vote on all three resolutions in a special session at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Holmes Student Center’s Clara Sperling Sky Room.
