Ciara: Goodies (2 stars)
November 11, 2004
Ciara hopes to make her mark with her debut album, Goodies.”
The album title and first single, “Goodies,” is a popular radio hit and gets its fair share of play at parties.
This track features Petey Pablo and the remix has Jazze Pha and T.I. with some hot beats to make it an instant attraction.
As for the vocals, they aren’t as impressive. Ciara holds a note just as well as some of the “American Idol” wannabes, with a cross between a weak Beyonce and a wannabe Brandy.
Produced by the infamous Jazze Pha, she has the right people in her corner to sell her not-so-original sound and appeal.
Even for those who aren’t enthused about Ciara, some of the tracks are catchy and even cynics will bob their head.
“1, 2, Step” is the best track. It takes the focus off her voice and brings a new dance and Missy Elliot to the forefront.
It goes like this: “Everybody, Ma and Poppy get on the floor/Grab somebody/Work your body, work your body/Wake the party up/We about to get it on/Let me see you one, two, step.”
There isn’t a doubt that Ciara is beautiful and has “goodies” to offer … just not that many in the singing department.
