‘Memories’ get emotional
November 4, 2004
“Becoming Memories” hopes to move audiences emotionally.
The heartfelt play about family bonds, courage and love runs Nov. 4-7 in the Stevens Building Player’s Theatre.
Richard Poole, assistant professor in the School of Theatre and Dance, cast only junior B.F.A. candidates for this production. Some of the actors will take on several roles in the play.
“Becoming Memories” was created by Arthur Giron and the Illusion Theatre of Minneapolis. The authors drew on their own family experiences to create this sometimes heart-wrenching, sometimes joyful representation of family life through the ages.
It focuses on several characters centered in Midwestern America from 1911 until the present day. It moves through the lives of five generations of families, showcasing how permanent and crucial memories are.
Younger generations question these memories before reflecting on them. The play portrays how different paths could have caused different outcomes for the family.
