Welcome to the biggest, baddest edition of Playback yet, playa! This week’s dream CD comes from senior nursing major Aisha Brownlee. The Chicago native has been a member of Delta Sigma Theta for two years. Her sorority sisters describe her as a versatile person, nicknaming her “the thinker.” If Brownlee made a mix CD of her favorite songs, these fine 15 would make the cut.
1. “Ready for Love” – India Arie “This song makes me reflect on my life and having a person around. It’s about having someone in love with you and you being in love with them.”
2. “Stars” – Kindred the Family Soul “This is such a romantic song; it will be my wedding song. I even have it saved as a voice note on my phone.”
3. “White Tee” – Dem Franchize Boyz “This is just a crazy song. It’s a really dumb song, but that’s what makes it so fun to listen to.”
4. “Slow Motion” – Juvenile “I just like the beat of this song, and it’s hot right now.”
5. “Always and Forever” – Luther Vandross “This is another romantic song. It reminds me of my senior prom, and I think it was our theme song then.”
6. ”Let’s Get Married” – Jagged Edge “That’s from my favorite Jagged Edge CD, and they’re my favorite male R&B group.”
7. “Bang, Bang, Skeet, Skeet” – Michael Boogaloo Boyer “This song brings back memories of old house parties in the hood.”
8. “Danger” – Erykah Badu “That was the anthem of our first sorority party on campus.”
9. “The Storm is Over” – Richard Smallwood “This song makes me think of all the trials and tribulations I’ve been through. Like the lyrics says: ‘I feel like I can make it/The storm is over.’”
10. “Maybe God Is Trying To Tell You Somethin’” – Quincy Jones “This song makes me think of the lessons I’ve learned and the meaning of those lessons.”
11. “Melodies from Heaven” – Kirk Franklin “This songs reminds me of my church family back at home.”
12. “Spaceship” – Kanye West “This song is about working so hard at a job, and you’re not appreciated for all the work you put in.”
13. “Confessions Pt. 1” – Usher “I really relate to the song. Let’s just leave it at that.”
14. “Your Child” – Mary J. Blige “I’ve witnessed a lot of the drama they talk about in the song. Nothing I can relate to directly, but definitely stuff I’ve seen.”
15. “Love is Blind” – Eve “I agree with this song that you can be blinded by love and not really see what’s going on in the relationship. That can have a detrimental effect on your life.”
