Columnist lays the blame on the wrong people
October 26, 2004
Mr. Leahy, you, like John Kerry and much of the public, again were duped by the spinsters of CBS. The cache of explosives you are referring to in your column Tuesday was never guarded by the United States. The cache of explosives was already gone by the time the United States got there on April 10, 2003. This story was already reported by NBC News in April 2003. April 10, 2003 was the day after Iraq was liberated. What happened? Who last saw the cache?
Well, in January 2003, three months before the invasion, the United Nations knew about these explosives. The cache of explosives was about 380 tons. It would take about 40 semis to move that amount of material out. How could this have gotten past the U.N.? Who is being incompetent here? With these new revelations (or facts, if you will), will you now denounce the U.N. on the same basis? Somehow I didn’t think so.
Finally, if they could sneak out 380 tons of explosives from under the noses of the U.N. before the United States invaded, then why not weapons of mass destruction?
I would strongly suggest you test and verify your claims before declaring the president of the United States incompetent, especially if your claims originate from the likes of CBS.
