Club to celebrate Indonesian culture
October 7, 2004
Students interested in Southeast Asia will get the chance to see what the region’s culture is all about tonight.
The Southeast Asian Club and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies will hold an Indonesian culture night at 5 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 900 Normal Road.
The cultural night is free to attend.
“This event has been held for many years in the past, and it allows students to become more aware of Indonesian culture,” said Carolina Bodner, public relations representative for the Southeast Asian Club.
The cultural night will showcase a live wayang kulit puppet show, live music, song and dance performed by the Indonesian community and NIU students, said coordinator Mary Byker.
“We want to expand the knowledge of the local community and allow everyone to become more diversified,” Byker said.
Meals were available for reservation before Tuesday, but there are still a few meals available for purchase upon arrival, Bodner said.
“This is a great chance for anyone who doesn’t have the money to travel to Indonesia to experience the culture,” Bodner said.
