Voting for Dummies

By Christina Chapman

Step 1: Look for the polling place listed on your voter registration card to determine which precinct you are in and where you should vote.

Step 2: Once at the polling place, look for signs identifying your precinct; several precincts may vote in the same location.

Step 3: Once you determine which table to go to, provide your voter registration card or a photo ID. You will need proof of your DeKalb County residence.

Step 4: Voters then will be given a piece of paper they must sign.

Step 5: Poll workers then will give you a demonstration on how the ballot and voting machine works, after which a voter will receive a special marking pen to mark his or her ballot.

Step 6: Enter the booth.

Step 7: With the special marking pen, darken the oval next to the candidate you wish to see elected.

Step 8: Double check your choices.

Step 9: Place the ballot in the slot designated for accepting ballots.

Step 10: Return the special voting pen to its designated area.

Step 11: Continue your day with the satisfaction that you are a bona-fide voter.

Should you have trouble completing any of these steps:

First: Look at the front of the ballot – many questions may be answered there.

Second: Ask any of the precinct judges for assistance; just don’t show them your votes.
