Jammin’ at the Convo

R. Kelly and Jay-Z considered performing in DeKalb, but fellow rap artists Lloyd Banks and Shawnna have made it a done deal.

On Saturday, the duo will perform at the Convocation Center as part of the Homecoming Jam.

Students can purchase tickets for the concert at Ticketmaster box offices or through the Ticketmaster Web site. Tickets cost $33 per person, without handling fees.

Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the Convocation Center, said this “is going to be a very successful show,” because ticket sales are already higher then last year’s Homecoming performance, which featured Ludacris.

NS*Radio, which will broadcast live from the concert, is giving away tickets for the Homecoming Jam all week.

The Convo Center booked this show through Nitelite Promotions, the corporation that brought the Dave Chappelle to the Convo Center last academic year.

Following the 8 p.m. concert, an after-party will be held in the main arena of the Convo Center. The main stage and seats will be cleared and then after-party attendees will be invited back in. The after-party will go well into the night, ending at 3 a.m.

This party is sponsored by the Convo Center in conjunction with Wind Tunnel Entertainment. The party will feature DJs from Power 92.3FM and WGCI’s Mike Love.

Concert organizers are stressing a strict dress code for anyone who attends this event. No jerseys and hats of any kind will be be permitted inside, organizers said. Security will be tight for both the concert and after-party.

Before the event, ticket prices for the after-party start at $15 for students and $20 for the public. The day of the event, ticket prices will rise to $25 per person.
