Maple Park man charged with sexual assault of minor
October 3, 2004
DeKalb County Sheriff’s police arrested a 36-year-old Maple Park man Thursday after a 15-year-old female relative accused him of sexual assault.
Daniel K. Klomhaus was charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault, child pornography and predatory criminal sexual assault of a child – a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said Klomhaus is a family member of the victim by a former marriage.
Klomhaus has no previous sexual assault convictions, he said.
Police said a parent of the child filed a police report Wednesday afternoon. The victim told police Klomhaus repeatedly had sexual intercourse with her since 2000 and that he videotaped the acts.
Detectives obtained a warrant and searched Klomhaus’ residence Thursday afternoon.
“We found a variety of items, primarily videotapes,” Scott said.
At least one of the videotapes contained child pornography, police said.
Klomhaus was taken into custody Thursday evening and is currently being held at the DeKalb County Jail on $1 million bond.
Klomhaus is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. today at the DeKalb County Courthouse.
