A former NIU woman’s basketball player has been named assistant woman’s basketball coach at the University of Arizona.

Denise Dove, a three-year guard standout for the Huskies, was named to the position on Tuesday, June 15. She had been a restricted-earnings coach for the Wildcats for the past year.

“We’re very pleased with Denise’s work this past year,” said Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini. “It’s a great addition to our staff to have Denise in a full-time position. She’s an outstanding young coach.”

According to Bonvicini, Dove will work primarily in scouting and assisting in recruiting, in addition to coaching on the floor.

“I’m excited about this tremendous opportunity,” Dove said. “I thank Joan for the confidence she has indicated in my promotion. We’re enthusiastic about what is happening with women’s basketball at Arizona.”

Dove made her marks in the Huskie record books for establishing all NIU’s three-point shooting records as well as season and career records for assists. Entering this season, she’s was ranked seventh on the NCAA career charts for three-point goals and tenth in three-point field goal percentage.

Dove holds a degree from NIU in corporate communications and spent one year on the Huskie’s women’s basketball coaching staff before joining the Arizona staff last summer.
