Greg Feltes has it better at NIU than he deserves
September 16, 2004
Please unclench your teeth from the hand that feeds you, Greg Feltes. Notably in the past two weeks, you have made it apparent NIU is not up to your standards. Your cute little hints at how much NIU “sucks” and how it obviously wasn’t your first choice only reflect poorly on your reputation as a writer and student of this institution.
How unfortunate it is that you do not recognize the opportunity you have been given to experience higher education. Please understand that there are people who do not get the luxury to waltz through Watson Hall, DuSable Hall or Founders Memorial Library like you do. There are those who will enter the workforce straight from high school, not of their own accord but because thousands of dollars per semester is not an option. These same people do not get the confidence, as you do, that they could end up with a sweet career at the Chicago Tribune or the like.
Furthermore, I venture to say that if you had ended up at what you consider a “better” school, you would not have the coveted “13 inches” column or Tony Danza icon at the head of your page. NIU has been good to you, Greg Feltes, and yet, time and time again you do not praise its reputation. Rather you find your daily voice an opportunity to tear down the pride of freshmen or transfers who might have actually chosen this institution for its admirable qualities as I did.
