Playback takes musical trip

By Jessica Coello

This week’s CD comes from Jeanine Storbeck, a freshman accounting major. She was secretly obsessed with the Spice Girls when she was younger and still has a special place in her heart for them today. If she were to bust out a mix CD of her favorite songs today, these are the tracks that would make the cut:

1. ”Battery” – Metallica. “The speed of the song gets me going.”

2. ”Duality” – Slipknot. “This comes off of one of their prettiest albums.”

3. ”Island in the Sun” – Weezer. “That song reminds me of being out somewhere.”

4. ”Little Green Bag” – George Baker Selection. “This song has a nice rhythm to it. It’s an adventurous song.”

5. ”Bring the Pain” – Mindless Self Indulgence. “It’s a fun song, and it has different beats in it that speed up and then slow down. The lyrics work well with the melody.”

6. ”Piano Man” – Billy Joel. “It’s a classic and I love it.”

7. ”Minerva” – Deftones. “It’s a mellow, calming song for me personally. The music is less hard-rock and more slow.”

8. ”Yellow” – Coldplay. “That was a song of my ex-boyfriend and mine.”

9. ”Longview” – Green Day. “This song is about boredom and sitting around with nothing to do. It reminds me of how lazy I can be.”

10. ”Summertime” – Sublime. “It reminded me of this past summer when I had nothing to do. I had a really easy summer, it being my first year before going to college and all.”

11. ”Master of Puppets” – Metallica. “A friend and I were driving home one day recently and we were rocking out and singing to the song. The people in the car next to us thought we were crazy. We must have looked crazy because we were dancing to a fast and intense song.”

12. ”Come on Eileen” – Save Ferris. “The lead singer, Monique, is one of my favorite female singers. She has a beautiful voice in that song, and it’s one of the better cover songs I’ve heard.”

13. ”Tragic Kingdom” – No Doubt. “This is one of my fairy-tale songs – a fantasy song.”

14. ”Janey’s Got a Gun” – Aerosmith. “A lot of people think I’m an aggressive person, and I’m not at all. People used to sing that to me in elementary school.”

15. “Walking Away” – Catch 22. “That song makes me sad; I guess I can call myself a bad girlfriend. The songs make me imagine my exes thinking of me ‘walking away’ because I would break up with them first so I wouldn’t get hurt.”
