Meeting to combat violence

By Ben Woloszyn

A panel discussion will be held today to address the Sept. 12 fight at Husky Grill and Sports Bar, where three NIU students were arrested. The group will also consider other issues of violence on campus.

Panel speakers representing the University Police, DeKalb police, the Black Student Union, Student Affairs, the NIU chapter of the NAACP and Otto’s Niteclub are scheduled to attend.

Sigma Gamma Rho sorority and Iota Phi Theta fraternity are sponsoring the discussion.

The panel discussion will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center. The discussion is open to everyone and is free to attend.

“The discussion is being held to get our ideas for cutting down violence on campus,” said Alicia Boughton, member of Sigma Gamma Rho and head organizer of the discussion. “We want to have better communication with the police, and security for events being held in town.”
