Fire causes $25K in damage
August 23, 2004
A fire broke out at a DeKalb residence on Sunday night, causing $25,000 in damages.
No one was injured in the fire.
Initial reports to firefighters said there may have been people trapped inside the building, located at 125 S. Seventh St.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was seen coming from several second-story windows. Firefighters discovered the fire in the front bedroom, and no one was found in the building.
After ventilating the structure, nearly two dozen firefighters – including crews from Sycamore and Cortland – subdued the fire.
The International Red Cross was on the scene to assist the building’s occupants with relocation.
The cause of the fire is unknown, DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell said.
Most of the losses incurred were from possessions in the fire, not structural damage, Russell said.
DeKalb fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
