The second candidate for the position of vice president for Student Affairs will tour NIU and interview for the position Wednesday.

Thomas Rios will attend an open session with students, faculty and staff at 11 a.m. in Room 305 at the Holmes Student Center. Rios will give a brief statement and answer questions there.

Rios is the assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs at Indiana State University, a position he has held since 2002. Rios completed his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1980. He then completed his master’s degree in counseling and guidance at the University of Arizona in 1983 and earned his Ph.D at Indiana State University for higher education administration in May 2001.

The vice president for Student Affairs will serve as a member of the university’s senior leadership and a member of the president’s cabinet. The position is also responsible for the leadership, management, development and coordination of student services, programs and activities.

Candidate Brian Hemphill visited campus for interviews June 16.

The provost’s office said they are hoping to make a decision on the position sometime after Rios’ visit.
