A repeat performance
April 1, 2004
Who can forget those good old times when we would pop classic movies in our VCRs for the 100th time and memorize all the lines?
Because of this infatuation, the phrase “Say ‘ello to my little friend” was accepted in common conversation.
Market Square Cinemas, 2160 Sycamore Road, is allowing us to relive the past by rushing once again to the big screen and watching the classic movies we grew up with. The new re-run series promotion, starting Friday and continuing until May 8, allows classic films like “Scarface,” “A Clockwork Orange” and “Dazed and Confused” to be viewed in the theaters again.
“Each year more and more people show up,” said Sonja Raush, general manager of Market Square Cinemas.
The events increased popularity is mostly because of word of mouth, Raush said.
Raush said she predicts the year’s most-watched film would have been “Dazed and Confused,” but since that will fall on graduation and finals week, the most popular show will be “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
At each re-run movie showing, moviegoers can take part in a raffle. The prizes given out range from posters, T-shirts and key chains to other small movie paraphernalia.
Three years ago, Market Square Cinemas tested out the re-run series and it’s been running ever since.
“We’re just trying to bring back good films to the big screen,” Raush said.
