University recognizes secretaries’ contributions

NIU hopes to motivate secretaries by recognizing them at the seventh annual Administrative Professionals’ Day at the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room.
Today, NIU External Programming of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is hosting a breakfast seminar to promote the professionals’ day.
Steven Johnson, External Programming director, said the breakfast seminar is an opportunity for NIU departments to recognize the contributions made by secretaries throughout the year. It also is the National Administrative Professionals’ Day, formerly known as Secretaries’ Day, he said.
Andrea Larson, a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences secretary, said social interaction and listening to the speaker are the most important things about the breakfast.
“With all the budget crunching, there is not really an opportunity for secretaries to move up because the budget is so tight, and they have to stay where they are,” Larson said.
To be motivated is important, Larson said. Students, secretary supervisors, secretaries and the DeKalb community also are invited, Larson said.
“Students derive a major benefit from NIU secretaries in help and assistance during their educational stay at NIU,” Johnson said. “On this day, the entire university recognizes the contributions of NIU secretaries to NIU’s success and the success of NIU students.”
