Islam Awareness Week kicks off with lecture
April 4, 2004
The Muslim Student Association will host five events during this week’s Islam Awareness Week to celebrate “A Misunderstood Religion.”
The first event will be an overview of Islam held at 7 p.m. today at McMurry Hall, Room 302. Shahidah Parveen, public relations director for the association, said two speakers will open Islam to everyone. They will discuss its basic and broad tenets, Parveen said.
Speakers from three faiths – Islam, Christianity and Judaism -will participate in an interfaith dialogue Wednesday, Parveen said. On Thursday, speakers will talk about women’s history in Islam, featuring their roles and values in the various walks of Islamic life.
“MSA welcomes anyone and everyone,” Parveen said. “In other words, you do not have to be a Muslim to attend.”
