Hair metal hits DeKalb

It’s 2004. Do you know where your Pantera is?

Tuesday night, 25 percent of the iconic metal act was at Otto’s Niteclub, 118 E. Lincoln Highway.

Vocalist Phil Anselmo and his latest project, Superjoint Ritual, marched into DeKalb on 4/20, the most name-appropriate date on the calender.

The evening featured acts Mr. Pill and Zeke, who, alongside Superjoint, were proof positive the black T-shirt and leather pants industries are thriving.

Anselmo and his bandmates pummeled through a 90-minute set of selections from their albums “Use Once And Destroy” and “A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred.”

During songs like “Dress Like A Target,” “The Knife Rises” and “Never Sit Or Stand Again,” the near-capacity crowd showed the best way to say “I like this song” is with a swift elbow to your neighbor’s back.

Superjoint is in the latter stages of a national headlining tour that will commence in New York on May 4. The band will take the main stage at this summer’s installment of Ozzfest and will come to the Tweeter Center in a sold-out show on August 21.
