Spring blooms with fest

By Laurel Marselle

Campus Activities Board’s Springfest activities start Saturday and will last until May 1.

From noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, CAB will host a battle of the bands at Central Park. Bands competing include Inspector Owl, Just Flo, The Forecast, Where’s Jimmy K At?, Infrared, Roscoe Plush and Ryan Dengel.

Bands will be judged by members of CAB’s Springfest and Concerts committees and several students at large. First prize winners will receive $300, second prize winners will receive $150 and third prize winners will receive $75.

Several nooner bands also will perform from noon to 1 p.m. from Monday to Thursday at the King Memorial Commons. Bands include 7-point 9, Triptii, The Tracks and MAD’s Ghost.

Besides having the opportunity to hear various bands perform, students can make root beer floats, receive a tarot card reading or get caricatures drawn at the MLK Commons.

Also, during select events, CAB will have free giveaways and prizes based on name drawings.

Springfest has been an annual event for at least the past 15 years, said Becky Kampe, CAB Springfest coordinator.

“We try to bring in events that we think students would enjoy and would help take their minds off of finals,” she said. “Plus it’s a great way to end the CAB programming year.”
