Convocation Center makes 1,000 more Chappelle tickets available
March 3, 2004
An additional 1,000 tickets for the April 15 Dave Chappelle show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday. The additional tickets will be available only to students.
The new seats will be located on the sides of the stage as well as in the last four rows in the back of the arena.
The comedy show, which will run for about an hour and a half, will start at 8 p.m. April 15 at the Convocation Center.
Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the Convocation Center, said he talked with the promoter and Chappelle before deciding to open up additional seats.
Originally, only 5,300 tickets were supposed to be sold. That number has risen to 7,000.
About 4,000 tickets were sold the first day. About 500 people waited outside the arena for tickets Friday.
“We knew it would be a great show for the students,” Selover said. “It exceeded our expectations.”
The reason for the show’s popularity may be because Chappelle is at the peak of his career and the tickets are affordable to students, Selover said.

Chappelle’s latest movie was “Undercover Brother”. His first starring role was in “Half Baked,” which he also co-wrote. He also has appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Politically Incorrect.”
This is, to date, the biggest show the arena has had, Selover said.
