Chinese delegates to explore education program

Twenty-two delegates from Beijing, China, will visit NIU today to learn how the university prepares its teachers for the classrooms.

The delegates are travelling to NIU to learn about the curriculums offered, the clinical experience provided before and after student teaching and how technology works into the curriculum, said Cynthia Campbell, assistant professor from NIU’s College of Education.

The delegates will visit NIU’s one-room school house, which Campbell said will show them how education began in the United States.

“We’re going to demonstrate how technology is used as an instructional tool, our capabilities and our resources,” Campbell said. “NIU has had and still has several international agreements with various educational institutions in China, and we’re hoping to expand that to the Beijing education commission during this visit.”

Campbell said she thinks that the delegates and NIU can learn from each other and do a lot of exchanging of ideas.
