Photo shows bank robbery suspect
March 16, 2004
DeKalb police haven’t made an arrest in last week’s bank robbery at DeKalb County Credit Union, 305 E. Locust St., but the department has some leads.
A photo of the suspect released by the department has triggered people to call with information, but no leads are clean-cut yet, DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said.
The photo shows a black male with a hooded jacket and a mustache in front of a bank teller. According to police, the suspect claimed to have a handgun, but it never was displayed.
The suspect then was seen fleeing north on Third Street.
Less than $5,000 in cash was taken from the bank, Kayes said. Nationally, bank robbers get away with an average of $4,000.
Last Monday’s bank robbery was the first in DeKalb since June 1997 when First Bank of America was robbed. In that robbery, the suspect used a small novelty bat as a weapon.
Police eventually made an arrest in that case.
Kayes said good leads should result in an arrest in the most recent robbery as well.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call DeKalb police at 748-8400 or Crimestoppers at 895-3272.
