Program explores women’s issues
March 26, 2004
S.I.S.T.E.R.S. and Sigma Gamma Rho will sponsor their second annual Black Women’s Health Symposium.
The event originated last year, and members of the organizations thought it would be a great idea to address women’s issues. This year’s theme is “Creating a Better You.”
“This program will create a better woman from the inside out,” said Brandi Mathis, president of S.I.S.T.E.R.S. “The symposium is to address and help many health issues that women face, especially black women. There are many seminars that involve meditation, self-esteem, hair care, skincare and massage therapy.”
Students will be informed about ways to improve spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally, Mathis said. Both organizations will provide breakfast and lunch and will offer free HIV testing.
Mathis said the women who attend will have a wonderful sense of self, a great look on how to take care of themselves and will be fulfilled from head-to-toe.
The symposium will be held at 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Stevenson Towers South. Each session will vary from room to room, and registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The event is free, and all women are encouraged to attend.
“This is a great event to experience,” Mathis said. “It can change you for the better and inform women on many important areas of caring for their bodies, minds and souls.”
