Miles of orchestra

Expect to have a “big good time” at 9 p.m. Friday at The House, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. Miles4Monty Orchestra, a world music performance group, will perform.

“People tell us our band playing is like an experience,” said Mark “Poncho” Domanigo, guitarist and vocalist. “We do some acting, comedy, but mainly we play music.”

-The members have special ties to NIU because the group met in 1995 in DeKalb and became an official band in 1996.

Miles4Monty is unique, consisting of two drummers/percussionists, Tim Rush and Nick Aurriemmo, bass guitarist Adam Bochman and Domanigo.

When describing the type of music the band plays, Domanigo struggled to find a description.

“Our starting point is jazz,” Domanigo said. “Then there is ethnic and Indian music — very organic — but there are elements of African Shakti, Caribbean and South American rhythms. Middle Eastern tabla or Caribbean pans are also used in percussion. “

Matthew Clark, general manager of The House, said he highly recommends Miles4Monty.

“With a matter of four people, they manage to put out a full sound with so many musical twists. They present it in a really enjoyable fashion,” Clark said. “You can say that about any band, but they paint musical artscapes in your mind. They let the mind go on its roller coaster of sound and paint mind portraits.”

Miles4Monty has released an album, “Music4Humans,” on Willow Records. Its Web site is www.m4mo.com.
