Crooners can swoon at open-mic night

If you have a poem or song to sing to your significant other, consider attending the CHANCE program’s “Love Connection” open-mic night.

Cassandra Jackson, a sophomore accountancy major and CHANCE program mentor, said the night is a fundraiser for the CHANCE program. The money raised will go toward the incoming freshman of the upcoming fall semester, Jackson said.

She also said the money will go toward CHANCE’s programs which include tutoring, consultation help with choosing instructors and adjusting to the higher education environment.

The open mic part of the program will allow students to sing or read to their significant others.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be your boyfriend or girlfriend,” Jackson said. “You could also dedicate something to a friend.”

Jackson said the program is a great event for single people. She said there will be a version of the MTV dating game “Singled Out.” The winners of the game will go out on date and receive a free movie and dinner.

Students should come out and support the event because of what CHANCE does for students, Jackson said.

“We’re a good cause,” she said. “Help us out so we can help them [incoming freshman] out.”
