Big Bird, gang flock to NIU

For anyone trying to find out how to get to Sesame Street, the search just got a little easier.
The Sesame Street Live tour is bringing its form of children’s entertainment to the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway, for a show on Nov. 18 and two on Nov. 19.
The show, which has been traveling for 24 years, will perform an all-new production titled “Out of this World.”
The show still takes place on Sesame Street, but this time, there is a twist. Martians have landed on the educational roadway, and Big Bird and the gang are out to teach them a few things about the planet Earth.
Kevin Selover, marketing manager at the Convo Center, said they already have had a positive response to the show.
“For parents with small children, there is no show like this within a 30-minute drive from DeKalb that I know of,” Selover said. “This is an opportunity for us to bring a show that has been a part of children’s history for the last 20 years here to DeKalb.”
Selover also said that if there is a demand from the community, the arena definitely would look into continuing to bring in family shows like Sesame Street Live.
The daytime television show “Sesame Street” has been entertaining children of all ages since 1968. The show won six Daytime Emmy Awards this past year, and now holds the record for the most Emmys, with 91.
Before the live tour makes its way to the Convo Center, it will make stops in New Orleans, San Antonio and Lexington, Ky.
