Fraternity plans Easter egg hunt

The Easter Bunny is coming to town and he will be making a stop at NIU.

Delta Chi is hosting an Easter egg hunt from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the West Lagoon and children who are involved in the Big Brother/Big Sister program will be searching for the hidden eggs.

Big Brother/Big Sister is an organization which aids working parents by matching up their children with volunteers who spend quality time with them.

The Easter egg hunt also will include activities such as games and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

According to Delta Chi member Andy Pataky, children who are not matched up with a “big brother” or a “big sister” will have a temporary partner for the egg hunt.

Pataky also said about 25 children are expected to participate in the event.

This is the second year Delta Chi has sponsored the Easter egg hunt and last year’s egg hunt was a success.

“We had a great turnout last year and it was a lot of fun,” Pataky said.

If the weather conditions are not suitable for the Easter egg hunt to take place outside, it will be moved indoors.

“If the weather isn’t good enough, we might move it to the basement of one of the Stevenson towers,” Pataky said.

The main goal behind the Easter egg hunt is to show the

children in the program a good time.

“It gives the kids something to do,” Pataky said. “It helps us get involved with the program, too.”

This is not the first event Delta Chi has had with the Big Brother/Big Sister program. The fraternity had a similar program last winter when it held a Christmas party with the children in the Big Brother/Big Sister program and Santa Claus came and passed out presents.
