Michelle Branch brings ‘Hotel Paper’ tour to DeKalb for CAB concert

Michelle Branch, with opening band Decca Tree, will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.

Many critics consider Branch one of the hottest young acts in pop music. Her career, while short, has sparked the attention of critics and the pocketbooks of buyers.

That said, tonight’s show is a rarity, according to John Benson, concert coordinator for Campus Activities Board.

“It’s a chance to see a high-profile artist in an intimate setting,” he said.

In 2001, her single “Everywhere” was No. 6 in the Top 40 Tracks on the Billboard charts. Her latest single “Are You Happy Now?” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 40.

Branch, critically acclaimed for her Grammy-winning debut “The Spirit Room,” is expected to bring in an audience comparable in size to Andrew WK, whose concert last semester sold the largest amount of tickets in 10 years.

“We’re expecting a lot. Basically, we are expecting the same magnitude of Andrew WK,” Benson said.

Tickets cost $15 for students at $20 for the general public, and can be purchased at the HSC Box Office.
