Huskies look to remain unbeaten in MAC
October 9, 2003
Despite their 2-8-2 overall record, the Huskies accompany Akron, Western Michigan and Kentucky as the only teams still undefeated in MAC play.
NIU will look to move to 2-0 in the conference when they take on Bowling Green (3-5-2, 1-2-0) at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Bowling Green has a game with Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Friday before they host NIU.
MAC-foe Marshall was the Huskies’ first conference victim on Oct. 28. The only other win of the season for NIU came against in-state rival Western Illinois.
“No doubt, the stakes go up in conference play,” Simmons said. “We knew Marshall would come at us hard and they got to 2-1, but Tony’s (Deldin) shot really stole their momentum, which is what you need to do in conference play.”
Momentum could be the name of the game for a young Huskies squad that has a chance to take advantage of an equally youthful Falcons team.
Bowling Green’s points leader, sophomore Paul Seip, has two goals and three assists. Seip is followed by freshmen Omari Aldridge and Dustin Snyder, who have six points apiece.
In goal for the Falcons is David DeGraff. The senior was a First-Team All-MAC selection last year and leads the MAC in saves (61), and saves per game (6.78) this year. The senior also has three shutouts this season, one more than he had all of last season.
The Huskies lost 2-1 to the Falcons last season, but NIU does lead the all-time series, 7-5.
