YMCA to get spooky
October 23, 2003
The Kishwaukee YMCA, with the help of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, will hold its annual Halloween party from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight.
“We’ve been doing the Halloween party for 13 years,” said Candy Jackman of YMCA’s information services. “It’s really a lot of fun for everyone.”
The party is free and includes a variety of activities for children.
“We have games and candy. The whole Y is decorated. We have a superhero theme this year,” Jackman said. “There is a haunted house and a not-so-scary haunted house for the younger children.”
SAE is helping to set up and run the Halloween party.
“Usually we have a fraternity or sorority that wants to help with the party,” Jackman said.
The idea to lend a hand with the party came from SAE’s community service chairman Sammy Berke.
“I was looking at what old community service chairmen did. I saw we did this a few years back,” Berke said. “We will be sending 20 or so fraternity members to help out.”
SAE members spent some of last night setting up Halloween party decorations.
There is plenty more community service in store for SAE this semester, said Berke.
“This weekend, we are getting guys to work with the family service agency. There is a Sycamore pumpkin fest where they will will be handing out food and drinks,” Berke said.
