Parking Services makes blue and yellow switches

By Joe Weyer

Campus Parking Services has been working hard to make parking easier for students.

Commuters may be happy to know that 28 parking spaces were switched from blue permits to yellow permits in Parking Lot C (the Chick Evans parking lot).

With that addition, however, 14 spots were switched from yellow to blue on the ramp between level two and level three of the parking deck.

The switches happened because there was too much confusion caused by parking signs in both parking areas, said Ron Pearson, coordinator of parking and traffic for Campus Parking Services.

Victor Lopez, sophomore undecided major, didn’t like the change at first.

“I parked [on the ramp] remembering I could last year, and then when I got out of my car, I noticed the change,” Lopez said. “I ended up spending a good half hour to find another parking space.”

At the end of last year, 100 spots were added as gravel spaces in Lot X (near Grant Towers).

Pearson spoke about the other parking lots.

“Everybody wants the good parking spots,” Pearson said.

According to Parking Services, there are many more drivers buying parking passes on campus this semester.

As of Sept. 3, there were 820 more parking permits sold this year.

Commuters have purchased 489 more yellow permits than last year.

There also are 254 more orange permits. Orange permits are used for students who live in university-owned housing.

The amount of blue and reserved permits did decrease from last year by 122. Blue permits are used for faculty and staff only.
