Karega Harris resigns from SA
September 1, 2003
Karega Harris, a three-year member of the Student Association, resigned late last week from his position as director of Academic Affairs.
According to Harris, a senior sociology major, the move will allow him to spend more time on his studies and also allow him to spend more time fulfilling his obligations as DeKalb’s 1st Ward Alderman.
“I’ve been thinking about it since the beginning of the semester,” said Harris, adding that the motorcycle accident he was involved in late Wednesday had nothing to do with his decision.
Harris had been a part of the SA since the 2000-2001 academic year when he served as an SA senator. In 2001-2002, he was treasurer for the SA, and last year Harris once again was an SA senator. Harris was appointed as director of Academic Affairs in May, two months after being elected alderman.
Harris said he still would keep in contact with members in the SA, and added he would help them out when needed.
“I still believe this will be one of the best years the SA will have,” Harris said. “They have great chemistry.”
John Acardo, director of public affairs for the SA, said they would be filling Harris’ vacated position, and they are currently accepting candidates.
