CPP sponsors volunteer drive

The Career Planning and Placement Center will sponsor its second annual volunteer drive today.

The Community Volunteer Drive provides NIU students and faculty the opportunity to network with community agencies and organizations and learn how to become involved in local volunteer projects.

The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the King Memorial Commons. In the event of bad weather, the drive will take place at the Campus Life Building, Suite 100.

“We are extremely happy to have organized this drive,” said Ronald Short, director of Career Planning and Placement. “This gives the students a great opportunity to show the community that they care enough to volunteer.”

The drive continues to serve as the university’s response to Sept. 11 attacks.

“We’ve found that since last year, volunteerism has gone up,” Short said. “We recorded that 284 students said that they volunteered and put in about 3,405 hours.”
