Two local bars receive fines
June 16, 2003
Two of the four DeKalb bars charged with violating liquor license laws received fines at Monday’s hearing.
Amnesia Night Club, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, and Starbusters Bar & Grill, 930 Pappas Drive No. D, received $500 and $750 fines respectively with no suspension of the liquor license.
“We consider it a light fine,” said City Attorney Margo Ely during the proceedings.
Stipulations were included in the rulings by Mayor Greg Sparrow, liquor commissioner, in addition to the fines. The employee who had sold liquor to minors had to be fired and the bars are required to card anyone who looks under 25 years old.
Two other bars, Stadium Club, 1311 West Lincoln Highway, and The Barn, 1215 Blackhawk Ave., received continuances until July 7 because additional charges are to be brought against them. It was not announced what the additional charges were.
Sparrow said that he wanted to bring all the charges up at one time.
All four bars had allowed a minor not accompanied by her parents or legal guardians into the bar, be served alcohol without identification and consume alcohol. Amnesia had allowed two minors to do all of the above violations.
