April 21, 2003
A DeKalb man was arrested Monday afternoon at Kishwaukee College after he was found with stolen property from an earlier burglary.
According to a press release, James E. Lane, 19, was being interviewed by DeKalb and University Police detectives after he was found with a laptop computer that was stolen in a residential burglary over the weekend.
Corporal Jon Costliow of the DeKalb Police Department said Lane struck the UP detective before fleeing on foot. The UP could not confirm that their officer was involved, but they did have an officer at Kishwaukee on Monday afternoon. The officer was not injured in the incident and Lane was apprehended following a brief foot chase.
Lane was charged with aggravated battery, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. The first two charges are Class 3 felonies, with possible jail terms of two to five years. Resisting arrest is a Class A misdemeanor which is punishable by one year in jail or a $1,000 fine.
Lane was unable to post bond and was being held at the DeKalb County Jail until his bond hearing today.
