Women’s History Month honors art

To celebrate the struggles women have overcome, the Chicago Women’s Caucus For Art will present the 2003 CWCA Juried Members’ Exhibition as part of the Women’s History Month celebration.

The featured work comes from a varied group of women. A total of 13 artists submitted their two-dimensional work for exhibit. Although dimensionally limited, the exhibit showcases several styles and subject matter, unique from one artist to the next.

Jessica Rose White stacked linoleum floor tiles to design installation art. The tiles are decorated with rice and colored sprinkles.

“It’s a floor on top of the floor. She has worked with the colors in the tiles and it causes the viewer to look at things differently. It’s not your ordinary environment,” gallery director Marie Coveny said.

Coveny added that the exhibit is a great place to meet artists and get involved with the modern art scene.

“It’s a convenient way to become familiar with what’s going on in the art world now. It’s also an opportunity to meet women artists from the greater Chicago area,” she said.

The reception will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday at the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, 1021 State St. The exhibition runs 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, through April 27.
