‘Matrix’ short whets the appetite

“The Final Flight of the Osiris,” an 11-minute short film based on the “The Matrix” story, was packaged with “Dreamcatcher.”

The first chapter of the highly anticipated “Animatrix,” it displays magnificent computer animation.

Consisting of nine short films, “The Animatrix” was created by Larry and Andy Wachowski, and is designed to fill in the gap between “The Matrix” and its sequels.

The story of “The Final Flight of the Osiris” follows a group of freedom fighters on the Osiris ship. (For those who haven’t seen “The Matrix,” its premise is that evil machines control the earth and keep humans enslaved in a virtual reality we know as the real world.)

Well-executed action sequences provide the content of the film. Even the first scene shows a tense round of sword-training.

Really more of a teaser than an actual film, “The Final Flight of the Osiris” has no real point other than to create hype for the giant “Matrix” machine. The story is not really self-contained; it needs the other parts of “The Matrix” world to make it whole. However, this can be dismissed in the face of beautiful and visually stunning graphics.

The skin on Thaddeus, captain of the Osiris, looks like realistically textured. Both he and Jue, his first mate, legitimately could be considered sex objects.

Real actors now have a reason to worry about digital ones taking over.
