Fundraiser proceeds to go to charity

“Beautiful Eyes” may be the name of this week’s fundraiser held by Delta Gamma, but the real beauty lies in its cause.

The fundraiser consists of tables set up at DuSable and Barsema halls and at the Holmes Student Center with cups donning pairs of eyes and the name of the organization it represents pasted on the label.

The proceeds of all money donated go to Service for Sight, a local charity for the visually impaired.

“Beautiful Eyes” will go on all week, along with a few other events held by Delta Gamma.

The sorority also will hold an ice cream social from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at their house, 917 Kimberly. The cost is $3, and anyone can attend. Proceeds for the social will go to Service for Sight as well.

The ladies of Delta Gamma anticipate a successful Anchor Splash this weekend.

“We’re really excited, it went really well last year,” said Kirsten Deist, director of new members of Delta Gamma.

This Sunday, the sorority will host the annual Anchor Splash and all affiliated activities from 1 to 3 p.m. at the pool on Gabel Hall.

Other events, such as the Lip Sync Contest and Mr. & Mrs. Anchor Splash will take place at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.

The Lip Sync Contest will be open to all participating fraternities, sororities and organizations and will consist of participants trying their turn at singing various songs.

“Mr. & Mrs. Anchor Splash is more of a beauty contest,” said Jinny Hazard, a sophomore member of Delta Gamma and Northern Star receptionist.

Following the swimming festivities, the announcement of the “Most Beautiful Eyes” winner, the spirit contest and the presentation of awards will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Duke Ellington Ballroom.
