Meet the candidates

Open forums are scheduled for vice provost candidates this week and next week.

Members of the Vice President Search Committee arranged the forums to give NIU students, faculty and staff the opportunity to meet the candidates.

The vice provost’s duties include overseeing the activities of the undergraduate enrollment services and the coordination of committees and activities that relate to undergraduate curriculum and to academic standards.

The vice provost also serves as chair of the Undergraduate Coordinating Council and oversees undergraduate admissions, registration and records and student financial aid.

The candidates are Paul Bauer, director of the NIU school of music, Earl Seaver, chair of the department of communicative disorders and George Bishop, professor of English and dean of faculty at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y.

Joyce Gardner, administrative assistant for Provost Legg, said the forums are informal and whoever attends them can ask questions of candidates, and she is sure they’ll be happy to answer them.

She said Vice Provost Wheeler’s position is up at the end of June, and though the Provost has the final say in who gets the job, student input is important.

“This position is over the academic area, and there’s a lot of student interaction with it,” she said. “We mainly don’t want to leave anybody out who may want to provide some input.”
