Duck! It’s fundraising time again

“You’re out!”

Memories of grade school gym class and the Billy Madison dodgeball scene will dominate the Student Recreation Center on March 1.

Pi Kappa Alpha will host its first-annual dodgeball tournament.

Starbusters, Let it Be and Downtown Discs are sponsoring the tourney Saturday at the Rec.

“Everyone loves dodgeball,” said Pike president and Northern Star assistant advertising manager Brent Renken.

As of now, Renken said there are 15 to 20 teams registered for the event, and there still are slots to sign up.

The registration fee is $7. Sign-up times are at 7:30 to 9 p.m Tuesday and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rec, with a captains meeting from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rec (attendance is mandatory).

A game of dodgeball consists of two teams, each with six players on the court throwing balls at each other. If players are hit, they are out. If they catch the opponent’s ball, the opponent is out.

The tournament will be held as an internal fundraiser to generate money for improvements to the Pike house.

There is no word on the prizes for the event, but the Pikes are working with their sponsors for potential prizes for first, second and third place finishers.
