A petition to revoke the teen club license of the Dungeon, 1025 W. Hillcrest Drive, was issued Tuesday by City Attorney Margo Ely.
DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said the petition came about based on the problems in the area.
According to the petition, there have been recurring violations of Chapter 32.08, which is reason to attempt to revoke the license. That section of the Municipal code discusses regulations for teen clubs.
The petition describes several offenses of the club based on the municipal code. Five dates of when there were violations to the code were listed.
The dates listed were Oct. 19, Jan. 18, Jan. 24., Jan. 25. and Jan. 31.
Three of those dates, Oct. 19, Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, police were called because a disorderly crowd and outbreaks of violence.
According to the petition, on Jan. 24, there was supposed to be seating for 260 people, but it only was for 125. Also, there was not a sufficient number of supervisory personnel on the premises.
According to the petition, on Jan. 31 alcoholic beverages were consumed and present on the premises, and they did not clean up the litter resulting from its operations.
The petition also stated that Feithen and Lt. Carl Leoni instructed owner David Hana to provide sufficient security to control the crowds at the establishment and he failed to do so.
“They don’t have enough security in there while they have parties and other events,” Feithen said.
The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on March 7 in Conference Room 212 at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
During the hearing, several officers will talk about how situations were handled at the Dungeon and license holders of the Dungeon’s permit will have an opportunity to respond to those charges. Feithen said he cannot predict what will happen at the hearing.
The Dungeon received their license on Oct. 11.
Hana, owner of the Dungeon, was unavailable for comment at press time.
