SA members turn themselves in
January 21, 2003
All of the former Student Association members wanted for warrants for credit card fraud have turned themselves in.
Former Director of Organizational Development Lonnie Pollard and former senators Richmond Clayton, Anthony Currie, Wendell “Danton” Floyd and Orlando Murrell, as well as two students not associated with SA, were charged with conspiracy unlawful use of a credit card on Jan. 10.
The deadline for the students to turn themselves in was Friday. Pollard was arrested and released Thursday. The remaining six were arrested and released Friday.
Ron Matekaitis, DeKalb County state’s attorney, said all seven individuals were charged with Class 3 felonies. The maximum term of imprisonment the seven could face, if convicted, is five years. They also could be fined up to $25,000, he said.
The students allegedly found a credit card and charged $1,100 worth of merchandise on or about Dec. 30.
Pollard and Currie resigned from the SA on Dec. 14 citing “personal reasons.” Clayton, Floyd and Murrell left the SA last semester after failing to meet the SA’s attendance requirements.
