CAB amuses students
November 8, 2002
Campus Activities Board’s motto is “students providing culture, fun and entertainment to the NIU community.”
Over the years, CAB, in accordance with the Student Association, has organized numerous events to entertain and promote cultural awareness on NIU’s campus.
Lydia Feliciano, coordinator for the Unity in Diversity committee, said she hopes the NIU community will appreciate the diversity and cultural awareness of the events sponsored.
“This year we plan to bring a lot of events to campus that are informative, educational and entertaining,” Feliciano said. “We try to do co-sponsorships with other organizations that promote cultural awareness.”
Feliciano’s committee is planning various events, such as Asian-American storytelling and plays.
CAB plans on hosting “Faces of America,” a one-woman show that delves into the lives of minorities and how they are affected by stereotypes.
Other committees also are excited about events in the near future.
Nicole Weber, coordinator for the travel committee, said she hopes people will want to go on the trips CAB offers.
“I hope to have the most amount of trips that my budget allows,” Weber said. “I want students to come out and enjoy the events because they have a very reasonable price.”
Coffeehouse coordinator Dorian Burks would like to attract a consistent crowd to events.
“I want to develop a fan-base,” Burks said. “I want people to come to Coffeehouse without knowing who’s going to be there.”
Coffeehouse will host another open-mic show on Dec. 4 at the Holmes Student Center’s Diversions Lounge.
