The Asian American Association will present “United Colors of NIU” at 6 p.m. today at the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

“It’s a multi-cultural show and we ask other organizations to perform,” said Ryan Billedo, a senior computer science major and vice president of AAA. “We have Dance 2 XS, who dance hip-hop and have won competitions in Chicago.”

Many different cultures will be represented at the show.

Kevin Wong, a senior accountancy major and president of AAA, said there will be 16 different acts performed by Latino, African, Asian and Caucasian cultures. The deaf community also will participate. The group Sing Sync will perform a song in sign language.

“The show is to promote cultural awareness among different organizations on the NIU campus,” Wong said.

Asian fraternities Chi Sigma Tau and Kappa Pi Betta also will participate in the show.

Cheryl Maranon, a senior OMIS major, is looking forward to the event.

“There’s going to be a variety of performances,” she said. “NIU needs more multi-cultural shows to see other talents and other people’s cultures.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show is free and open to all.
