Kishwaukee Orchestra opens 25th season

By P.J. Osborne

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will open its 25th concert season at the Egyptian Theatre with “A Salute to America and its Music.”

Guest conductor and NIU alumnus Kirk Lundbeck will lead the KSO in patriotic favorites by Aaron Copland, John Phillip Sousa, Morton Gould and Charles Ives.

-KSO publicist Kathryn Hanson said students should attend the event for a number of reasons.

“This being our 25th season as an orchestra, our silver anniversary, our opening season concert and [the week of] Oct. 6 through 12 is Illinois Arts Week as presented by the Illinois Arts Council, are all wonderful reasons for strong support from the DeKalb area, especially Northern Illinois University,” she said. “This is live entertainment, [a] live orchestra with wonderful, talented and dedicated musicians ranging in ages from 14 to 84, reasonably priced, indoors and less than a new release of a movie.”

Hanson also noted the Egyptian Theatre will host a post-concert reception with information available about the orchestra and its upcoming performances.

Season tickets for 2002-2003 are available and include all four concerts of the upcoming year. Tickets range in price from $15 for children and students to $25 for adults. Family ticket prices for the upcoming concert season can be purchased for $50. Individual student tickets are $5 each and available at the box office starting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6th, or by calling general manager, Phyl Naffziger at 748-7071. Those interested also can call Guest Conductor, Kirk Lundbeck, at (815) 895-3884.
