The NIU men’s soccer team has two things in common with its next opponent, DePaul.

One, they both won their first game this week. Two, each won against Wisconsin-Green Bay.

NIU takes on the Blue Demons Sunday at noon at the Huskie Soccer Field.

Against UW-Green Bay, Vraham Kadkhodaian scored the Huskies’ first goal, assisted by Jesus Mauricio. Matt Stukenberg scored the winning goal in overtime for the win.

“It’s good to get the first win out of the way, especially a win on the road,” NIU assistant coach Karsten Roy said.

The Huskies (1-4-0) are back at home Sunday but have yet to put one in the win column at the Huskie Soccer Field.

The Huskies will have to keep an eye on DePaul (1-2-1) high-scorer Luke Rojo. Rojo is coming off a two goal performance making him DePaul’s leading scorer.

Though NIU’s offensive production has not been consistent, there is no one person carrying the team.

Each of the five goals scored by the Huskies has come from a different player.

NIU has also been able to put more shots on goal in the last two games, 13 then the 12 they had in the first three games of the season.

The NIU offense will have a mysterious challenge this weekend trying to get past DePaul’s sophomore goal keeper Brian Allen.

Allen recently came out of nowhere to help the Blue Demons earn their first victory and take over for DePaul freshman Mike Timlin, who started their first three games.

Allen allowed one goal and had seven saves in his first start Sunday.

NIU goalie Rasih Pala, who had three saves against UW-Green Bay, and the Huskie defense are coming off a strong performance and will look to shut down Rojo and the Blue Demons.
