RHA kicks off week-long celebration
September 19, 2002
The Residence Hall Association will celebrate RHA week from Monday through Friday with a week of events and giveaways.
“It is a celebration of all that is RHA,” said Andrea Baker, programming vice president of the association. “It’s getting your name out there and letting people know what we do in the halls.”
The week will begin with karaoke at Stevenson’s multi-purpose room on Monday.
It’s just a fun way to kick off the week, Baker said.
On Tuesday, residents will have a chance to get some free stuff with giveaways in hall lobbies.
“We are going to have representatives from each hall council giving away RHA stuff and making stress balls,” Baker said.
On Wednesday, RHA’s Believing in Cultures group will host a forum, which will be the first of a discussion series.
“It’s basically a time for students to find out about Believing in Cultures and its expansion,” BIC president Rachel Turner said.
Also part of the week will be the Thursday re-opening of the New Orleans Room in Stevenson North’s basement.
“It’s celebration, a party,” Baker said. “It’s open for everyone out there to hang out.”
Ryan Billedo, a senior computer science major and Stevenson resident, is glad to see the re-opening of the room.
“RHA has renovated the New Orleans Room to be a fun place to hang out,” Billedo said. “The atmosphere and free pool, darts and ping-pong makes it a worth while place to go.”
On Friday, residents will have the opportunity to take a bus trip to Chicago and attend a taping for Jenny Jones.
“Fifty residents can attend, you can sign up as soon as possible,” Baker said. “It was a popular program in the past and it’s a good way to get together. Hopefully what they talk about is relevant to college life.”
RHA is a great way for residents to come out and get involved, Baker added.
“We want to bring student leaders out and develop their leadership qualities and get involved,” she said.
